Disciplinary Complaint Filed Against FEC Commissioner

Group Calls For Caroline Hunter’s Removal From FEC And Criminal Prosecution Referral

U.S.WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Monday, Velvet Revolution (“VR”), a watchdog group dedicated to government accountability and election protection, filed a disciplinary complaint against current FEC Commissioner Caroline Hunter for giving false and misleading testimony in a federal lawsuit alleging illegal vote caging by the Republican National Committee.

The complaint is based on an on-the-record finding by federal Judge Dickerson Debevoise that Hunter’s testimony “is belied by the evidence….”   In short, Hunter’s affidavit attempted to conceal the role of the RNC in illegal vote suppression activities during the 2004 presidential election.  The complaint and all supporting documents are located at http://www.velvetrevolution.us/#041210.

The six-page disciplinary complaint, filed with the Washington, D.C. Office of Bar Counsel, Board on Professional Responsibility by attorney and VR board member Kevin Zeese, requests disbarment.

“Caroline Hunter lied  to a federal judge about illegal vote caging by the RNC. She now sits on the Federal Election  Commission where she continues to do everything possible to deprive Americans of the right to vote. We have asked the Disciplinary Commission to initiate disbarment proceedings against her to hold her accountable and ensure that she will not misuse her law license to keep people from voting. In addition, because of this very serious evidence of criminal wrongdoing, Ms. Hunter should be removed from serving at the FEC,” said Zeese.

VR has also written a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting a criminal referral for obstruction of justice and perjury.
