Rahzel, DJ JS-1 To Headline Hip Hop Festival On June 28

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas Question: What do you get when you throw a hip hop slash reggae slash rock slash breakbeat slash graffiti festival on a private 70-acre ranch in Texas?

Answer: Verbal Anarchy Fest!

This ambitious day-long festival is the brainchild of promoters Johnny J of New Braunfels and Jay W of Queens, New York City, N.Y.

“To our knowledge there has NEVER been anything like this in the area,” said Jay W in an email exchange with the Iconoclast. “Most festivals are taveling and only come around once a year. We plan on doing this in the same location, once a month with major artists.

“We want to make this a year round Woodstock or Coachella.”

The duo has on tap a blend of local and national artists from noon to midnight on Saturday, June 28, sharing a fully-covered 6,000-capacity arena they call “The Barn.”

World famous hip hop legends have the night shift.

Said Jay W: “This year we are bringing in Rahzel, the Godfather of Noize from The Roots, and his partner DJ JS-1. Rahzel is hands down one of the greatest immitaters of music and voices, DJ JS-1 is an excellent show/trick DJ. This duo has been doing shows around the world for eight years, and trust me you DO NOT wanna miss this live show.

“Also Sadat X of Brand Nubian will be there with classic songs like ‘Slow Down,’ ‘Punks jump up to get beat down,’ and ‘One for All.’

“Craig G of The Juice Crew is the world’s greatest Freestyle MC who has been on classic hip hop songs like ‘The Symphony’ and ‘Droppin Science.’ Craig G is the guy behind the scenes who worked on the Battle Rhymes for the movie ‘8 Mile’ with Eminem, and also for the movie ‘Get Rich or Die Trying.’ Other hip hop acts are Cold Heat (New York), Inkwizitive (Los Angeles), and more,” he added.

The afternoon will feature local rock and regge artists: The Word Association of San Marcos, SuperROOT of San Antonio/El Paso, and The Turntablist Duo Needlz & That Kid Cee as well as Carlton Pride & Zion, Eleven Fingered Charlie, Shark Attack, and Grimy Styles.

Available on the ranch land is enough space for camping which is encouraged to limit driving and hotel costs; however, camping is free with advanced tickets ONLY. Camping costs $10 on the day of the event.

Food, drinks, rest rooms, and shopping will also be available.
