Interview With
Sandy Gimpel
Professional Stuntwoman

LOS ANGELES, Calif. Sandy Gimpel is known for breaking things, scaling skyscrapers, and bungi jumping.

You need someone to crash a car? She can do it.

You need someone to leap out a window? She can do it.

You need someone to set herself on fire? She can do that, too.

Well, it’s all in her job description.

So is making sure that her identify is kept hidden from the cameras.

In fact, in the past, she has passed as a double for actresses Jodie Foster, Sarah Jessica Parker, Susan Lucci, and Sally Field.

But that’s pretty normal for any old stuntwoman in Hollywood.

What? You thought she was a ninja or something?

Actually, she does hold a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, which is sort of ninja-esque, but I digress.

But what’s really unique about Gimpel is her longevity and successes.

At 67, she is still one of the top stuntwomen in the entertainment business, a veteran of 86 films. She is one of the few women to run the stunt department of a major motion picture or TV show. She also happens to be the first stuntwoman to get her directing credentials as a member of the Directors Guild of America.

So eat your heart out, Ginger Rogers!

Actually, dancing is how Gimpel started in the entertainment industry, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The Iconoclast recently caught up with the native Los Angelino to talk about her career, her fears, her healthcare, her dreams, and her new workout video which Baby Boomers are certainly encouraged to try at home.
