Little Miracles Of Spring


Country dwellers, surrounded by nature, are constantly confronted with the curiosities and surprises of life. With the coming of spring, these little miracles multiply geometrically. First come the warming of the air and the earth, the showing of green shoots and flowering bulbs, the greening of winter-dead trees and other plants. The ground comes alive with new growth, especially if one has put in years of time and effort, as we have. This spring I finally documented (in photographs) everything as it emerged, both wild and planted by the resident humans.


When I saw my first hummingbird of the season, I put out a feeder. We were pleased to see the little guy (and a couple of friends) visit immediately.


When my daughter arrived for a rare, long visit a few weeks ago, our large, shallow water tank was dry, as it has been for two years of drought. I reminded Becca of her childhood when, during spring visits to the ranch, we would find the tank full
